I am glad I quit Tea. (read "quit coffee" post here)

Main Post:

I read this post here that mentions quitting coffee/caffeine had the effect of reducing the OP's anxiety, immediately I could recall my days and nights of extreme anxiety. Mind wouldn't stop racing, thoughts would terrorize me, my body would be all fight-or-flight. Paranoia, stress, stomach butterflies, dreading things, what not. Thankfully I don't get them anymore, the ONLY thing absent in my life is tea (also coffee).

I don't know about you, but I never knew how badly tea used to trigger anxiety in me until I quit it. It took me a few weeks probably to completely quit it as I used to drink at least two cups every day. Now, even when I have a cup of tea, there is an immediate, noticeable spike in anxiety that I can feel. The good thing is, now I know that the anxiety is not my own but an effect of the tea. Still, I try to avoid it more or less (unless I am having a cold, where a bit of tea works well for unclogging the sinus). I would tell you this, try to slowly go off the wagon of tea and coffee (I quit coffee as well, but let me assure you, it takes time to quit these things, a couple of months is nothing here because how deeply we are used to drinking the coffee and tea). Getting rid of tea got rid of 90% of my anxiety. Of course dealing with the situations which gave me anxiety, coping with them in a better way also helped, but tea was a major player in the "triggering" phase of anxiety. Without it, it takes much more stress and strain for me to get anxious. Which is good, isn't it? :)

Hope this post helps you, best wishes for a better time.

You don't have to quit tea, there are some really good herbal teas with no caffeine! I found that cutting out caffeine helped me a lot too. I usually never mention it to people though because they always grill me about not drinking anything caffeinated. It's really annoying!

My cafe got one of these as a joke... It tasted like wood, felt like wood, I definitely swallowed some wood, and it went rancid within a couple weeks. I brewed a daily Canadiano, it was a project to dial one in. It was nearly undrinkable every time, even when we brewed one on top of a filtered V60.

Contigo Travel Mugs (Semi Long Post)

Main Post:

Hey Guys. I bought a Travel Mug from Aldi a couple of months ago. It was in similar style to Contigo spill proof mugs and it said "I love you more than coffee, but not before coffee". I have lost that mug and am now devastated. It kept coffee burning hot for about 7 hours and warm for another 4. Since Aldi has rotating stock and no real distributor I am having a hard time replacing it with something I like. I had a Contigo mug when I was in HS, but it broke after I dropped it a couple of times. So the actual question is,

Can anyone recommend a cup similar to Contigo travel mugs, that are durable, spill-proof and keep coffee hot for a long time?

Best local coffee roaster in Toronto? [x-post from r/coffee]

Main Post:

Just moved from Windsor to Toronto, and looking to find a good, local, ideally small-batch roaster. I used to love Great Lakes Coffee in Detroit, and Salute Coffee in Windsor.

I know Dark Horse sells intelligentsia, but I was looking for something a little more "made in Toronto" but still great.

Any pointers?

Post your chemex recipes & techniques.

recipe looks fine to me. i like to stir the bloom, and since you pour in batches, i also like to gently stir up the grounds only when i'm pouring to redistribute the grinds inside the chemex. considering you are using a virtuoso, there shouldn't be too much a problem with clogging your filter if you stir gently. the reason for the stir is to try to get even extraction by redistributing the grinds to different areas, since each area (e.g. top of water bed vs tip) can get varying levels of extraction. good luck!
